Delays are not fun for anyone, and when it comes to the white iPhone 4, it has seen quite a few of them. During Apple’s press conference last week they announced that the white model would finally be released at the end of this month.

In a press release statement released by Apple today, they are still having issues making them and now they say the white iPhone is delayed until later this year. Bad news for those who were holding out for the white. At least the free iPhone 4 cases program is now fully underway.

White models of Apple’s new iPhone® 4 have continued to be more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected, and as a result they will not be available until later this year. The availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected.

So why does the white iPhone 4 keep having these manufacturing issues? According to sources, the glass manufacturing process is creating issues when white paint is involved. The fact that Apple is using special aluminosilicate glass for extra durability has made the process even more complex. This has put additional strain to perfect the process, and so they are still working to get it under control.

Thankfully the black iPhone 4 has none of these issues and Apple reports that they are working hard to meet demand. They have already sold over 3 million iPhones and the demand is not slowing down at all, despite the antenna issue. Hopefully Apple can get a handle on the white model and there will be no more delays. Maybe “later this year” will turn out to be sooner than expected.
