Firefox

If you are interested in testing it out yourself then head on over to the Firefox 4 beta download page on the Mozilla site and jump in. One of the first immediate changes you can see to the interface is that they have moved the tabs to the top of the window. According to the notes this change is only available on Windows at the moment, but OSX and Linux will be getting this soon as well. So if you try the Firefox 4 beta download on those platforms the theme will be the same as 3.0 for now.

Some people might be familiar with the tabs on top from Google Chrome. Love it or hate it, the change is apparently going to be the default from now on in Firefox 4. Certainly you will still have the option of using a theme with the tabs on the bottom if you wish.

Other changes that have been made include a new add-on manager, WebM video support, better crash protection, and even more privacy controls. They have also expanded support for the latest HTML5 technologies, which is great news for web developers. Apparently support for WebGL is on the way, which allows for 3D acceleration without the need for plugins.

When you combine all the new features and technologies this is definitely the most exciting version of Firefox to be released. Remember though, it is still in beta so old plug-ins might not work with the latest build. However as time goes on developers should be able to fix that.
